Mahmoud Dahoud: Another Confirmation of Dortmund’s Prudent Transfer Policy

Christian Pulisic

Europe has long started taking note and the rest of the world followed, as the 18-year-old football sensation came bursting onto the brightest scene, crushing several records along the way.

Having joined Borussia Dortmund straight from the United States, the fantastic attacking midfielder wasted no time into grabbing his spot in the first-team and is currently enjoying a Bundesliga season as a fully proven talent at such a delicate age.

The total of 21 Bundesliga games and three goals are not enough to illustrate the full scope of Pulisic’s influence in Dortmund’s play, but the American talent stands as the leader of the new wave, that is for sure.

Ousmane Dembele

French midfielder is one of the players who had the entire footballing Europe chasing him last year as he came breaking from Rennes’ first team.

Borussia Dortmund once again demonstrated their impressive negotiating skills to beat the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and a number of other European giants for the player who is expected to become a world-class star in the near future.

The glimpses of great promise have helped the 19-year-old forward set his footprint in Germany as Dembele has so far made 23 Bundesliga appearances and scored 6 goals, but the best is yet to come.

Julian Weigl

Touted as the successor of Toni Kroos, the 21-year-old holding midfielder is having an excellent season under Thomas Tuchel and has already attracted the attention of the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Contracted until 2021, Weigl has joined Dortmund in 2015 and has been the mainstay for the Bundesliga giants over the past two seasons.

Goals are not his specialities and the German youngster is yet to put the ball in the back of the net in the league, but his overall performances have earned him rave reviews and comparisons with Kroos and Busquets, which is enough of a prize itself.

Emre Mor

Turkish talent Emre Mor only joined Borussia Dortmund last summer, but he has already racked up 15 appearances this season, putting some impressive displays along the way.

The 19-year-old rising talent already has ten Turkey caps under his belt and a goal he scored in the 3-1 win over Moldova during the March international break.

His rapid rise to prominence is another confirmation of Dortmund being the perfect farming ground for young players and it is only a matter of time when Europe’s greatest clubs will come knocking for Emre Mor as well.

Felix Passlack

Homegrown midfielder who is taking up a more defence-oriented role at Borussia Dortmund in his debut season with the first team, Felix Passlack got no more than seven Bundesliga appearances this season, which were still enough for the 18-year-old Germany international to showcase his huge potential.

Often described as the heir to Lukasz Piszczek at Borussia Dortmund, Felix Passlack is expected to be one of the leaders on his generation.

A versatile player who can easily fit in the right-back position is a clever and intelligent young player, whose leadership skills set him apart in the crowd.

‘I could start crying knowing that I won’t be coaching this guy’, was what Jurgen Klopp once told of Felix Passlack, which is more of an explanation I need for the talents of Dortmund’s teenager.

Mikel Merino

Another of the foreign pearls at Borussia Dortmund, Mikel Merino is a Spanish midfielder who joined the Bundesliga giants back in 2016 from Osasuna.

The 20-year-old struggled to break into the first team since his arrival last summer and his limited playing time even led to speculation that he could return to Osasuna on loan, but Thomas Tuchel decided to keep hold of the Spanish midfielder.

Merino has been used in defence and played out of position, which seems to be the biggest problem in his father’s opinion, but the youngster has still managed to show his versatility and professionalism which are commendable to great extent.

Alexander Isak

Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been a poster boy for Sweden for many years and the teenage sensation Alexander Isak appears to be the successor of his king’s crown.

The 17-year-old forward is one of the most exciting names in European football. His jaw-dropping performances for AIK have been quick to alarm the host of Europe’s biggest names such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and many others.

Borussia Dortmund was the most agile and straightforward, splashing out £10 million to snatch a boy who is expected to reach the highest of heights at the international scene. Isak has been praised for his decision to join Dortmund, a club renowned for grooming young talent to their full potential.

Swedish sensation is yet to make his professional debut at Dortmund and the world waits in anticipation to see the world-class talent grace the pitches of Bundesliga.

Should Borussia Dortmund be able to hold on to their talented boys for years to come and help them develop into ready-made stars, there is no doubt that the new BVB will once again be a force to be reckoned with in Europe.

the first chance to see some of them in action arrives this weekend when travel to Schalke for the fiercely contested Revierderby.

Dortmund are to claim a win against their bitter rivals.
