Levante 2 Atletico Madrid 2: Camello grabs debut goal in Griezmann and Godin farewell

Sergio Camello scored a debut goal as Atletico Madrid battled back from 2-0 down with 10 men to end their LaLiga campaign with a 2-2 draw against Levante at the Ciutat de Valencia.

Saturday s match marked the final time Antoine Griezmann, Diego Godin and Juanfran are likely to put on the Atletico shirt, but they could do little to prevent their side from falling behind in the first half.

Erick Cabaco gave Levante an early lead and Roger Marti seized on an error at the back from Thomas Partey to double his side s tally.

But the visitors pulled off the comeback, despite having Angel Correa sent off early in the second half, as Rodrigo and substitute Camello found a way through.

Atletico were behind with just six minutes played as Ruben Vezo headed the ball …

Egypt v Cameroon: Two AFCON powerhouses seek further glory

Egypt and Cameroon, two of the most successful teams in Africa Cup of Nations history, are ready to do battle in the 2017 final on Saturday.

Record seven-time winners Egypt won three tournaments in a row between 2006 and 2010, with more glory now in their sights.

After failing to qualify for the three competitions to follow that famous hat-trick, the Pharaohs have resumed their dominance after returning to the tournament proper this year by reaching the final, conceding only once in five games.

Egypt have only ever lost one AFCON final and represent formidable opposition to Cameroon.

Hugo Broos side, though, should not be underestimated. Despite losing key players through injuries and withdrawals prior to the event, they have seen off two of the compet…

At the absolute limit – Thomas Tuchel criticises packed football calendar

Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel is the latest high-profile manager to take issue with the football calendar after admitting his players are physically and mentally tired.

Tuchel’s mood has not been helped by the Bundesliga scheduling their fixture at Cologne for Friday night.

Pre-weekend matches in Germany are generally designed to help teams with Champions League fixtures the following week but coming immediately off the back of an international break does not appear to have done Bayern too many favours.

Tuchel: The players have returned to us injury-free. In general, we doing everything we can to make sure they feel good here, regardless of the results they picked up with their national teams. It s important that the focus is on Bayern.

Manchester City are just getting started, warns Sheikh Mansour

Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour insists the club s ambitious plans to revolutionise football are only getting started.

This weekend marks 10 years since the Abu Dhabi United Group s stunning takeover of City, which drastically altered the future trajectory of the club and the Premier League.

In that decade the Blues have amassed three Premier League titles, as many EFL Cups and an FA Cup, spending an estimated £1.4billion on playing staff alone.

They won the title by a whopping 19 points last season, but Mansour insists the club s plans to set new standards for football have a long way to go.

The journey for City was always about trying to complete our work in a way that saw us achieve benchmarks that had yet to be set within football,  h…

Redmond expected City to give up chances

Nathan Redmond says Southampton expected Manchester City s defence to give up chances in their 1-1 Premier League draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola s side went behind in the first half when John Stones poor pass allowed Redmond to round Claudio Bravo and finish, though substitute Kelechi Iheanacho rescued a point after half-time.

The result takes City back to the top of the table, above Arsenal and Liverpool on goal difference, but Guardiola has now failed to celebrate a win in five matches for the first time since 2009, when he was at Barcelona.

And Redmond said Southampton were waiting for City s back three of Stones, Aleksandar Kolarov and the returning Vincent Kompany to make a mistake at some stage.

Bale can ´definitely do a job´ in Premier League, says former Wales team-mate Ledley

Gareth Bale can still definitely do a job in the Premier League , according to his former Wales team-mate Joe Ledley.

Bale will officially become a free agent at the end of this month when his contract at Real Madrid, where he has spent the past nine seasons, expires.

The 32-year-old is on the lookout for a new club to maintain his fitness after inspiring Wales to their first World Cup in 64 years with victory over Ukraine on Sunday.

That ended any talk of an early retirement, with a number of clubs being credited with an interest in Bale, including hometown team Cardiff City, Getafe and sides in Major League Soccer.

Ledley, who played with Bale for Wales until 2018, believes English top-flight clubs should be eyeing up a move for him, one year on fro…

In-demand defender Simakan extends RB Leipzig deal to 2027

RB Leipzig have handed defender Mohamed Simakan a contract extension that runs to 2027 in a bid to ward off reported interest from several of Europe s biggest clubs.

Simakan joined Leipzig from Strasbourg ahead of the 2021-22 season, playing a key role as the club won the DFB-Pokal for the first time in May.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Tottenham were credited with an interest in Simakan in the last transfer window, after the 22-year-old made 28 Bundesliga appearances last term.

But Simakan started 19 of Leipzig s 24 games before the World Cup break this campaign and he believes the club represents the ideal place for him to continue developing.

It was a big step for me when I arrived at the club a year and a half ago, he told the club s…
