Reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Cole Custer claimed his first win of the 2024 season Saturday, beating his closest championship challenger Justin Allgaier to the Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 checkered flag and giving Ford its first series win of the year. Custer's No. 00 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang took the lead from Allgaier on a restart with nine laps remaining and then held off the JR Motorsports Chevy by .670 seconds to secure his 14th career victory in a thrilling finish at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. He becomes the first driver to win multiple NASCAR Xfinity Series races at the historic 2.5-mile track — answering his 2019 win. "You just try to manage it the best you can but it's kind of the luck of the draw who gets the best push," a smiling Custer said of having to hold off perennial championship contender Allgaier and third-place finisher and NASCAR Cup Series regular William Byron in the closing laps. "That was some Doug Yates horsepower right there. We definitely had it on the straightaways and man, I just can't say enough about these guys. They've worked so hard this whole year and just haven't had that final result. To finally get it, is so awesome." Allgaier led a race-best 30 laps of the 90-lap race, with the 25-year-old Californian Custer out front for 25 laps — the two drivers each winning a stage. For Allgaier, his Stage 1 victory was a series-best 11th, but a pit road penalty during the ensuing pit stop forced him to work his way back up through the field. And even with all the impressive race statistics and compelling comeback storyline Saturday, it was missing out on the trophy after such a strong showing that stuck with Allgaier when he climbed out of his Chevrolet. "Really proud of everyone at Junior Motorsports, just really stinks to come out of here second," Allgaier said. "Led so many laps here and feel like same result every time, just not able to go to Victory Lane. … Just came up a little short and it's going to sting for a little while." This year's Daytona 500 winner and the 2017 Xfinity Series champion Byron was making his third Xfinity Series start of the season and kept the field honest, leading 17 laps. Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Sheldon Creed and Taylor Gray rounded out the Pocono top five. Kaulig Racing's A.J. Allmendinger, Richard Childress Racing's Austin Hill, Big Machine Racing's Parker Kligerman and JR Motorsports teammates Sammy Smith and Sam Mayer rounded out the top 10. Custer extended his lead atop the Xfinity Series championship and now holds a 51-point advantage on Allgaier. With seven races remaining to set the 12-driver playoff field, Smith holds a 23-point edge over Ryan Sieg for that 12th position. The NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to action Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the Pennzoil 250 (3:30 p.m. ET, USA Network, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). Ty Gibbs won the race last year on the Indianapolis Grand Prix Circuit. Kyle Busch won the last NASCAR Xfinity Series race on the famed 2.5-mile oval in 2019. Until not too long ago, few could have predicted that Dead Rising would ever see the light of day again. The slapstick zombie-slaying franchise was nothing short of a juggernaut in its early years, but a steady decline in quality with later instalments led to a shelving of the series by Capcom that felt so thorough, so final, it was hard to imagine a future where the company would ever return to it. And yet, here we are- Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster brings the series legendary debut back to the limelight in enhanced and upgraded form, and it does so with blessedly impeccable results, grabbing hold of the Dead Rising franchise’s corpse and dragging it out from under the ground for a new chance at life.
Capcom has e…

Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain was a dream scenario, according to Argentina team-mate Leandro Paredes.
Messi was heavily linked with the French giants, as well as Premier League side Manchester City, having handed in a transfer request at Camp Nou last year.
Messi ended up staying to see out the final year of his deal and recently became a free agent, though there has been little talk of a move away from Barcelona amid reports he is on the verge of signing a five-year extension.
Paredes talked up the chances of his compatriot making the switch to PSG earlier this year, but he accepts the superstar forward is now set to stay in Spain.
Yes, there was a lot of talk at the club when it emerged that Leo could come to Paris, he told ESP…

Lyon coach Remi Garde paid tribute to amateurs Quevilly after his team won the Coupe de France final 1-0 on Saturday.
Striker Lisandro Lopez netted a 28th-minute winner at Stade de France, seeing Lyon to their first trophy since 2008.
Garde, whose team sit fourth in Ligue 1, praised the giant-killing third-tier side for their run and performance in the final.
It is a team who beat Angers, Rennes and Marseille, so they showed potential, Garde said.
I think we respected them all and took them seriously, and we did well because even If we had a lot of chances, in second half in particular they put us under pressure.
But I congratulate them for their great final in a good mood as well. Both teams played the game in the right spirit, that s what …
Cristiano Ronaldo was left out of Manchester United s matchday squad for Sunday s Premier League trip to Fulham after struggling with illness.
Ronaldo captained United in a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa last week but was absent for Thursday s EFL Cup victory over the same opponents due to feeling unwell.
Erik ten Hag said it was possible Ronaldo would be involved in United s final pre-World Cup game at Craven Cottage, insisting the Portugal forward s absence was not influenced by the upcoming tournament in Qatar.
However, the 37-year-old was left out of United s squad, with Anthony Elanga joining Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial – who both scored in Thursday s 4-2 win over Villa – in their attack.
Ten Hag also opted to start left-back Tyrell Malacia i…
Abby Wambach has set her sights on World Cup glory with United States to crown a stunning career in women s football.
The decorated USA international has won two Olympic gold medals was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2012 and is the highest goalscorer in all international football with 182 strikes in 242 caps.
However, World Cup success continues to elude her as she embarks on a fourth finals in Canada, and that is a record she is desperate to change.
We need to be a team that has no fear, Wambach said. We need to go out there and fly at other teams — that s a team that I think is unbeatable.
If we don t that s a team that I don t know if it gets out of our group.
There is a sense that when nerves rise on the big stage people play a…
Germany boss Flick praises Fullkrug after debut goal but admits need to raise levels at the World Cu
Hansi Flick was pleased to see Niclas Fullkrug score on his Germany debut, but admitted his side were far from their best despite the 1-0 win over Oman.
The visitors struggled in Muscat in their World Cup warm-up game, relying on substitute Fullkrug s 80th-minute strike to take victory in a match that never really got going.
Though Germany will not be the only side battling fatigue amid a mid-season tournament, their lacklustre performance against relative minnows perhaps highlighted the difficulties they could face at Qatar 2022, which begins on Sunday.
Flick did take time to praise Fullkrug, the Werder Bremen striker winning his first cap after firing 10 goals in 14 Bundesliga games this season, while outlining his concerns over their warm-up showing.
